We're just surfacing today after a late one last night, but a bloody good one :-)
Indesit and I went over to Lyme Regis at about 4pm to hand out flyers. A lot of Lyme Regis seemed to be either going home after their holiday or had kids so couldn't come out. I was starting to think I had a few too many flyers at one point.
Mummy Indesit had come down for the gig and is a demon on flyering so things picked up and we had hardly any left by half five. Hailing Star, our support band, had beaten us to the theatre so after quick hellos we got onto the job of bringing in amps and drums. It's surprising how quickly it all comes together, but it was hugely helpful that we had an external sound engineer who had already setup the PA.
Hailing Star started at 8.30pm and went down really well. They've only been together a couple of months and their all aged between 15 and 17. Very impressive stuff. They had a nice mixture of originals and covers.... their originals are so catchy that for a moment, I assumed they were covers.
We had a few interesting moments on stage (Bully losing his pick, Indesit reading a copy of the wrong setlist...) but on the whole, a great gig (if I may say so myself!). I do think we're at our best on a stage but my God, it was hot up there! It's very difficult to maintain the energy after two hours in that heat but I think that half way through, you start getting aclimatised to some degree.
After the gig, we chilled out a bit and mingled with the audience. Carol and her friend, who run a B&B locally, invited us to the Nags Head for post gig drinkies so we called in there on the way home. Poor buggers had to be up at 6am to do breakfasts! urgh! It also gave us another chance to meet up with Mummy Indesit again ;-)
Big thanks to Giles, the Merch Master and to Kataya for stepping in at short notice to do the lights. Oh and thanks to Nigel and Margie for booking us - we'll look forward to coming back next year.
