The REOFFENDERS

Punk Rock: Classic and Modern

The REOFFENDERS are on an indefinite break. Never say never, but we currently have no plans to play. However, we had joy and we had fun... and we blogged about it. Enjoy reading and reliving some good times.

New Stuff at the Longbrook

Exeter City FC was being televised in the playoff semi finals last night so our own kick off was delayed. The match also restricted soundchecking somewhat but we tried to be as unobtrusive as possible so as not to ruin anyone's enjoyment of the footy.

We started with a new song, Goldblade's "Fighting in the Dancehalls" which is a full on onslaught of energy. Unfortunately it also meant that the landlord wanted things turned down a bit. Not a problem but it took us a few songs to get the mix balanced again so the vocals were a bit quiet during the first few songs. Sorry about that ;-) Perhaps that was a side effect of the short soundcheck.

One guy got rather over excited during the second half. He'd had a shandy too many and launched himself at Bully to give him a hug (I think that's what was happening) and managed to take out a mic stand, monitor and pint of coke in one go. Impressive!

We'd deliberately tried to introduce lots of new material as well as songs that we haven't done for a while. We're very aware that lots of people will come to see us quite regularly and that playing the same set could get a bit stale. We also don't like the audience knowing what's coming next because we do things in the same order so we'd mixed things up a fair bit. In hindsight, we should've done a couple more of the silly ones but the new songs seemed to be well received.

New songs are:

The Damned - Antipope
The Jam - Going Underground
The Adverts - Gary Gilmores Eyes
Generation X - Ready Steady Go
Toy Dolls - The Death of Barry the Roofer (with vertigo)
The Buzzcocks - What Do I Get?
Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright
Goldblade - Fighting in the Dancehalls
Xray Specs - Germ Free Adolescent
Ian Jury and the Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick

All of these got an outing last night with the exception of Germ Free Adolescent. It's a slow song and sounds really good but does stand out as being much slower than the rest of the set. I'd intended to stick it in at the start of the encore but changed my mind last minute because people were enjoying bouncing around too much and I didn't want to lose that. We might do it on Saturday though, you never know. We've been asked for Xray Specs an insane number of times, so if you want it, shout up!

Saturday's gig will be a very different set. The new ones will get another outing but with the exception of one or two others, the rest of the set will be completely different to last night.

Great to see so many familiar faces and thanks to everyone who stayed out so much later than normal on a school night.
